Choosing Baby Names You Both Like

Having a baby brings with it a lot of changes to your life and your attitude to life and it does give you something different to worry about.

No need to worry about the first task and that is to choose the right name for your new baby. Knowing the sex of your baby before it is born halves the number of names you need to consider and simplifies choosing a baby name. You will need to make lists of names for boys as well as girls if you don’t know.

Names come and go and what is fashionable today may not be so popular next year. If you choose a very common name you may find that when your child goes to school lots of their friends all share the name with them.

Film stars and celebrities seem to choose very unusual names for their children but living such exclusive lives means their children have no problems with that. A very unusual name might cause your child’s school mates to tease them about their name and make unkind comments.

When you are choosing baby names look at what the initial letters of the name might spell out. Some initials could spell out something that will cause problems for your child ’sad’ for instance.

Remember that a name will be with your child for life so you should spend all the time you need to find the right name that you and your partner feel will be right for your child. There are children who hate the names they were given by their parents and as soon as they are old enough they change it so something they prefer.

Avoid getting yourself stressed about choosing your baby’s name as this is a happy time and you should be enjoying it all. Talking with your partner so you can both put forward some suggested names is helpful but it can take a lot of time. Talk about why you prefer some names so you both understand each others point of view when it comes to selecting baby names.
